hypothesis: shifts are increasing collisions

rules:

  1. it is the job of the centerfielder to call off the the other outfielders
  2. it is the job of ANY outfielder to call off the infielder
  3. it is the job of the shortstop to call off any of the other infielders / basemen
  4. if there is discrepancy, the infielder (with experience) can also call off the other infielders, but that is a team / player / situation / decision decided beforehand, or generally recognized vantage point situation

Bonus observation:

KMOX radio out of St. Louis is hilarious

Pujols is cast out of heaven and is slowly descending from such a high place

as he goes down the cloud layers, he passes his fans, the players that came before him, and lands in the center of a circle of his new teammates

only the sports writers cant see him

the writers are robots measuring the decline

people are talking like he is dead.

really.

who knows what a 10-time All-Star and 3-time MVP is thinking about in his last year during a pandemic, when he has been the topic of conversation about decline for TEN YEARS (that’s one hell of a decline!)

maybe he is addicted to baseball?

maybe it’s the only thing his body can do?

can five homers and single in St. Louis revive his public soul?

for 10 years we have been hearing about this decline.

maybe he is the keystone lynchpin that connects baseball past to baseball future and he will be frozen and kept in the vaults of Cooperstown while a government look-alike assumes his day-to-day life.

April, 2021 – Meta Observations

The Padres and the Dodgers are still playing each other even days afterward.

The Dodgers look tired.

The Padres looked bruised up.

That series will have long-term repercussions.

That same weekend and the following day, MLB players opened up the hearts and souls of america the same way the New York Yankees did after September 11th.

Just a beautiful vibe.

The players are responding to the live human energy well.

This is a performance art, afterall.

Lots of good rivalries.

We sympathize for pitchers.

A Baserunner

this is the story of three pitches

the pitcher and first baseman ask the baserunner to return to the base

the batter seems to point at the outside pitch and seems to indicate it is time to run… he will hack at the next one

the batter takes a hack – the runner is running at full tilt

full tilt

get down

get down and get in there

what?????!!!!!! where did he go???!!!

ricochet

happy at third

what the???!!!… wait?

get back!!! even if no one is there…

next pitch

pitcher hears the ball whistle by

jog in from third

an ode to noone around here

confused times we live in

a pitcher deliberately tips his pitches and is angry when he misses
the umpire consoles the distressed batsman
the next pitcher lobs a 51mph pitch for strike
the manager is thrown out of the game before he left the dugout
the catcher is hit-by-pitch by both teams
the video replay disagreed with the call that agreed with the replay
17 walks in one game and the commissioner is writing a report to the training system
the bull pen door opened and noone came out.

what has the world come to?

and but so then:

if we could watch every game we wanted to, it would go like this:

all San Diego Padres vs Los Angeles Dodgers games, because, well, this promises to be an unmatched rivalry

all New York Yankees vs Toronto Blue Jays games because this is the platinum test for the Jays, and this is where we will go to find out how good of a team they are

all New York Mets vs Atlanta Braves games because that is going to be some kinda doubles and base-running bonanza
